I have been door knocking homes throughout Woodcroft to get my message out, that if I’m elected as Councillor of Pimpala Ward in Onkaparinga I will do all I can to reduce your rates, but I also want to find if you have other issues.

So I came to Sunrise Drive and spoke to 2 residents who say the speed of traffic is often excessive. It’s dangerous and the traffic noise impacts on the quality of life for residents.
One resident was so enraged it took, perhaps 4 minutes or more, until he calmed down enough to tell me clearly the details of the problem. There had been accidents with damage and near misses. He fears it’s only a matter of time until someone is seriously hurt. He didn’t want speed bumps (a lot of people don’t like them) but said the road should be blocked to cars entering from Panalatinga Road.
This is a narrow street with 50km speed limit that often has cars parked on both sides so drivers have to take care to give way. In effect you may find yourself driving up behind what is a parked car so you need to give way to oncoming traffic but some drivers get too aggressive and force their way. This is a recipe for a nasty accident.
It might take some time to sort this out because it involves the state government because Panalatinga Road is the responsibility of the Highways Department.
Neverthless this is the sort of thing I believe Councils should treat as a priority. This person’s outrage was aimed squarely at the Council’s inaction.
There is a similar issue along Warburton Road which has become a main thoroughfare since the mushroom farm closed and the road opened up. There might not be a simple solution because there aren’t a lot of roads leading into this section of Woodroft.
I say to a lot of residents they are entitled to do a ‘Deputation’ to council on any issue like this that they feel strongly about. A Deputation is a formal statement you make to all elected members at the monthly meeting. It’s 8 minutes in which you get to have your say and answer questions.
Don’t underestimate what can be achieved.
